Japanese Climate
Japan is situated in a temperate zone but it is an island country with an elongated territory from north to south and, as it has a varied geography with mountainous areas and mountain ranges the length of the archipelago, it also has various climates. The effects of seasonal winds that blow between the continent and the oceans are strongly felt and the Japanese climate can be divided into two different types: the Pacific Ocean climate and the Sea of Japan climate.
●Pacific Ocean Side
Pacific Ocean side climate characteristics are hot summers and dry winters. Another characteristic is that there are particular effects from the seasonal winds from the south in the summer leading to high rainfall levels due to the rainy season and typhoons.
●Japan Sea Side
Japan Sea side climate characteristics are relatively warm summers and cold winters and, due to the strong effects of north-westerly seasonal winds, there are high rainfalls levels. In the same way as the Pacific Ocean side, this area is affected by the rainy season and typhoons.
