Izu Amagi Yoshina Onsen
A “Fertility Onsen” with a 1200 year history.
According to temple legend, in the era of Emperor Shomu Gyoki holy priests discovered this onsen while they were on an itinerant journey through many regions and taught the villagers about bathing treatment methods. There they enshrined Bhaisajyaguru (Buddha able to cure all ills) and Sakyamuni (sage of the Sakyas) and erected a temple in the year 724. It is said that the conception rate is over 80% and the story goes that the wife and concubine of Ieyasu Tokugawa both became pregnant after immersing themselves in the Yoshina Onsen waters.
