Kusatsu Onsen
『Love sickness cannot be cured by the doctor or by Kusatsu spring water』
This onsen resort is so famous in Japan that almost everyone knows this song. There is a theory that the name originated from “famous Kusatsu springs in the south”, a quotation in the Great Perfection of Wisdom Sutra and another that it originated from the fact that the smell of the hydrogen sulphide emitted from the Kusatsu springs was called “kusa-uzu” and over the years this changed to “Kusatsu”. Whichever is true, this is an historical onsen resort, one of the best in Japan
Kusatsu Onsen has general bathing facilities, onsen ryokan, restaurants (including Chinese) and souvenir shops.
