Kinosaki Onsen

Kinosaki Onsen

One day, an injured stork landed in Kinosaki Onsen. The stork’s injury was instantly healed by the miraculous powers of the onsen and the stork, completely cured, flew calmly off into the horizon. This is the legend of “Kou no Yu” that has been handed down through the generations since the Asuka Period (629 - 641). Kinosaki Onsen is an onsen of legend.
Kinosaki Onsen spa is located in the north of Hyogo and its special feature is the streets that brim with a feeling of history. The willow trees planted on either side of the streets lend an even more nostalgic atmosphere to the townscape. This is an onsen that has been favoured by many writers and artists and is also the stage of the work named “In Kinosaki” by the Japanese literary master, Naoya Shiga.
As well as being home to famous onsen ryokan, Kinosaki also has 7 famous public onsen (open air baths) and many onsen fans visit this area regularly. In particular, this area continues to fascinate many Japanese people with its winter snow scenes and speciality crab cuisine.
