A “Little Kyoto” where you can stroll the streets brimming with reminiscence of the old capital
Brimming with reminiscence of the old capital with its many historical landmarks and cultural assets, Hida is also known as “Little Kyoto”. There are many highlights such as the rows of merchant houses with latticed bay windows, the streets exuding gentle elegance, the morning market held in front of the Jinya (Historical Government House) along the banks of the Miyagawa River and famous temples. Hida enjoys high popularity to the extent that it is described as the hometown of the Japanese heart. In recent years, new onsen have opened in the city one after the other and much of the accommodation offers spring water in abundance. The Takayama Festival which is held in spring and autumn is famous for its procession of decorative floats and attracts crowds of sightseers.
